The Fenwick Lodge was formed in May, 1890 at Woolloongabba, and celebrated its 120th Anniversary in May 2010. We originally were warranted as a lodge under the United Grand Lodge of England in the District of Queensland. In 1920 we took part with the other English and Scottish Lodges in forming the Queensland Grand Lodge which merged a year later with the existing Grand Lodge of Queensland to form the United Grand Lodge of Queensland, which we remain under to this day. We met on the south side of the river, firstly around Woollongabba then later at the Vulture Street Masonic Centre from 1910 until it's sale in 2004 when we moved into the Ann Street Masonic Memorial Centre in the city. Today the lodge has 41 members, aged from early 20's through to members who have over 50 years continuous membership of our lodge and still are active in the lodge's activities. Our members range from white to blue collar workers and even some who work in the newer 21st century professions. The management of the lodge is carried out by the younger members, with the older members to guide and advise us.
We pride ourselves on being a friendly and welcoming lodge that anybody would feel comfortable joining. Our meetings are professionally run with most finishing within 2 hours, allowing those members with early starts the next day to depart, while those who stay for our well provisioned Festive Board can be assured it will be finished within an hour of the formal meeting ending.
We hold social activities throughout the year for all members of the lodge and their family, and lodge members interact between meetings via our web and facebook pages, as well as unplanned social get togethers.
We are enthusiastically planning activities to celebrate our 120th Anniversary, and are also working on a plan to ensure that we are still here in 5 years time to celebrate our 125th Anniversary.
