Initiated in Prince of Wales Lodge No. 908 in 1866; Served as W.M. in 1869.

Exalted December 31st 1867 in Prince of Wales RAC. Past District Grand H. after having held office as MEZ in Prince of Wales and North Australian RAC's.

In the Mark Degree he was PGO of ENG., and Deputy Dist. GM of Queensland, Past Preceptor and Past Prior in the Order of the Temple; 30º in Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite; Past Commander N. in St George RAM Lodge No. 103.

Appointed District Grand Secretary of the English Constitution 1st March 1871, which office he held with signal fidelity and success till his death 14th July 1900. Appointed Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies of United Grand Lodge of England in 1897 (Past Grand Rank). An able counsellor and expert in matters of Masonic administration.

Born Newcastle (Eng.) September 1823. Arrived Melbourne 1854, Early sixties, pastoral pursuits in Queensland. Arrived Brisbane 1864; became a well known stock and station agent; (reputedly ran District Grand Lodge from company offices); visited England 1889; resided at Brisbane till death. Buried in Toowong Cemetery 15th July 1900. Funeral was attended by representatives from 52 Lodges and several Grand Lodges.

This photo of John Fenwick is in the Warwick Masonic Centre. The notation shows him as a Past District Senior Grand Warden, which puts the photo at some point before 1897 when he was appointed to Past Grand Rank.

   

Below are some images of the grave of our namesake in Toowong Cemetery. It is the lodges intention to clean the grave and restore the surround as part of it's 120th Anniversary celebrations in 2010.
